Effect of ambient conditions on water management and faults in PEMFC systems: A Review

Abstract

PEMFC (proton exchange membrane fuel cell) is a very prominent renewable energy source. Unlike other sources it has high dependency on ambient conditions. The variation in ambient conditions affect the water management in PEMFC which accounts for drying and flooding faults. Various models are discussed in this research which considers the variation of ambient conditions directly or indirectly. Water management and faults regarding water equilibrium are discussed. The correlation of water imbalance and ambient conditions has also been discussed in reference to previous studies on PEMFC system at varying ambient conditions. The analysis has been done for predicting faults regarding variation in ambient conditions and future modelling for quick and reliable diagnostic strategies are proposed.
